More Details
- In this session, participants will engage with training developed by ETSU’s Strong Brain Institute focused on building resilience in postsecondary settings. Through a combination of video content and guided discussion, we will explore how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma can impact academic success, as well as social, physical, and mental well-being in higher education environments. Participants will be introduced to an evidence-based framework for promoting resilience in themselves, their colleagues, and their classrooms, with practical strategies for supporting students and mitigating the effects of trauma. At the conclusion of the session, participants will have the opportunity to earn a digital badge for LinkedIn or other professional platforms. The session will take place in a computer lab with opportunities for small group discussion, and participants are encouraged to bring their own device if preferred.
For those interested in additional context, this session is classified as a Level 2 training. ETSU also offers a Level 1 credential that introduces the concept of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and explores how these experiences can impact lifelong physical and mental health. In the Level 1 training, participants learn about ACEs as well as other forms of trauma and stress, and are introduced to trauma and resilience informed approaches that support well-being across individuals, workplaces, and communities.
The Level 1 training is not a prerequisite for this session. Participants may complete it before or after attending the Level 2 training, depending on their interest and availability. To support your preparation, a brief one to three page overview of ACEs will be shared prior to the session.
