Advisor Mastery Program (AMP) Workshops

These workshops will focus primarily on advisor skill-building and knowledge-building. Potential topics include:

• Technical/Software/Administrative skills (Excel, TEAMS, ARGOS, reading high school transcripts, etc.)
• Advising approaches and best practices
• Legal/Ethical issues in advising
• Inclusive Excellence 

Workshops will be offered twice a month, and will generally be worth 1 point (unless otherwise stated). Workshops will vary in terms of being offered in-person or via zoom.

Workshop Description: 

Academic advisors rely on accurate, current, and comprehensive knowledge to guide students toward informed decisions and academic success. This workshop explores the NACADA Informational Competency, which encompasses the institutional, curricular, policy, and resource knowledge advisors need to effectively support students. Participants will examine the types of information essential to quality advising, discuss strategies for staying informed in a dynamic higher education environment, and practice applying institutional knowledge to realistic advising scenarios. By strengthening their informational competency, advisors will enhance their confidence, consistency, and ability to connect students with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. 

NACADA Core Competency alignment: 

• I1: Institution specific history, mission, vision, values, and culture. 

• I2: Curriculum, degree programs, and other academic requirements and options. 

• I3: Institution specific policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. 

• I4: Legal guidelines of advising practice, including privacy regulations and confidentiality. 

• I5: Characteristics, needs, and experiences of major and emerging student populations. 

• I6: Campus and community resources that support student success. 

• I7: Information technology applicable to relevant advising roles
