Advisor Mastery Program (AMP) Workshops

These workshops will focus primarily on advisor skill-building and knowledge-building. Potential topics include:

• Technical/Software/Administrative skills (Excel, TEAMS, ARGOS, reading high school transcripts, etc.)
• Advising approaches and best practices
• Legal/Ethical issues in advising
• Inclusive Excellence 

Workshops will be offered twice a month, and will generally be worth 1 point (unless otherwise stated). Workshops will vary in terms of being offered in-person or via zoom.

Workshop Description: 

Effective academic advising is grounded in more than policies and interpersonal skills—it is informed by a deep understanding of the theories, values, and philosophies that shape the profession. This workshop introduces the NACADA Conceptual Competency, focusing on the "why" behind advising. Participants will explore the history and purpose of academic advising, advising approaches and philosophies, student development and learning theories, and the role of equity, inclusion, and ethics in advising practice. Through reflection and application, advisors will strengthen their ability to make intentional, theory-informed decisions that promote student learning, development, and success.
