AMP Works - PD: Advising in an Online Setting
Advisor Mastery Program (AMP) Workshops
These workshops will focus primarily on advisor skill-building and knowledge-building. Potential topics include:
- Technical/Software/Administrative skills (Excel, TEAMS, ARGOS, reading high school transcripts, etc.)
- Advising approaches and best practices
- Legal/Ethical issues in advising
- Inclusive Excellence
Workshops will be offered twice a month, and will generally be worth 1 point (unless otherwise stated). Workshops will vary in terms of being offered in-person or via zoom.

This interactive workshop will begin with an overview of MTSU’s online student population and demographics before exploring effective practices for supporting online learners through virtual academic advising. Participants will discuss common challenges faced by online students and advisors, examine strategies for building meaningful connections in virtual spaces, and explore how MTSU tools and resources can support diverse student populations. Through collaborative discussion and practical scenarios, attendees will leave with actionable approaches to enhance the online advising experience and support student success.
