AMP Scholars is a sub-committee of AMP dedicated to advancing scholarship, research, and professional contribution within academic advising. The group supports advisors in developing and sharing their expertise through publications, conference proposals, and engagement with professional organizations and journals. AMP Scholars fosters a collaborative environment that encourages inquiry, peer feedback, and continuous learning while helping elevate the visibility and impact of advising work.

The committee provides guidance and structured support for writing initiatives, proposal development, and submission processes, helping advisors translate their experiences and innovations into scholarly and professional contributions. In addition, AMP Scholars coordinates and promotes advising award opportunities aligned with NACADA, assisting with nominations and recognition efforts that celebrate excellence in the field. Through these efforts, AMP Scholars empowers advisors to grow as practitioner-scholars, contribute to the broader advising community, and strengthen a culture of scholarship across campus.

More Details

This session is informed by the belief that all MTSU colleagues have something important to say and would benefit from time, strategies, and support to develop and share their ideas. The session aims to make the act of writing for publication more accessible by offering tips for targeting specific publication venues, using accountability partners to meet writing goals, and ensuring that attendees know how to guide their good ideas toward a publication home.  

All participants should come to the workshop with 1-2 sentences describing a project they might like to pursue. They’ll leave with a plan for how to work toward eventual publication.

This session supports NACADA and CAS professional standards by positioning advisors as scholar-practitioners who can translate their everyday advising experiences, questions, assessment findings, and emerging practices into knowledge that contributes to the profession. Participants will strengthen professional communication and collaboration skills while developing intentional approaches to professional learning, reflective practice, and scholarly inquiry. The session also supports CAS expectations related to professional development, evidence-informed practice, lifelong learning, and the use of knowledge to enhance student learning and success.
