More Details

Description: We’ve all experienced it: walking away from a conversation and thinking, “I wish I had said that differently.” In the fast-paced, emotional, and sometimes sensitive context of academic advising, these moments can affect relationships and outcomes. This session invites advisors to share experiences and explore best practices for mindful, effective communication. Together, we’ll discuss strategies to pause and think before responding, phrase feedback constructively, and recover gracefully when we misspeak. Participants will engage in guided reflection and collaborative discussion to uncover lessons learned from real-world scenarios and develop tools for delivering messages with empathy, clarity, and professionalism. By the end of the session, advisors will feel more confident in expressing themselves in ways that foster understanding and trust.
