More Details
Building on the Emotional Intelligence training, this session examines how the attitude and presence advisors bring to interactions deeply influence how students perceive advising and whether they return for support. Borrowing lessons from customer service — but framed through a student-centered lens — we’ll discuss how to be approachable and available, how to balance empathy with accountability, and how to deliver the not-so-fun guidance: not always what students want to hear, but what they need, delivered with care and clarity. Participants will reflect on how their tone, body language, and emotional awareness impact the student experience and practice strategies to ensure students feel valued, respected, and motivated to engage. By the end of the session, advisors will leave with actionable approaches to enhance their advising “bedside manner” while maintaining professional boundaries and supporting student success.
