Current Focus: Modeling Radiation Intensity and Temperature of Blood Samples: Exploring Black Body Radiation and Phenomena through Computational Analysis and Experimental Measurements

Project Description

For this research, we take measurements in the lab for blood samples. These various blood samples go under laser trapping, and it is recorded. I created a code to calculate the radiation intensity and temperature of recorded measurements of biological blood samples: animal blood, cancerous blood, and human blood.

Why does this topic interest you?

This project caught my eye because we are working with lasers. We are using a technique called laser trapping to see how much power radiates off of the sample. I am interested in the optics behind the project. Optics itself interests me because the concepts are cool, such as bending light. These topics also come easily to me. This project has opened my eyes to potentially switching my career interest to medical physics.

What are your professional aspirations?

I plan on furthering my education by hopefully getting accepted into a PhD program in nuclear engineering. Then after I obtain my degree, I want to get contracted by the Navy to do something with nuclear engineering.
