Current Focus: HBCU Wellness Project- Mental Health: How to Cope with Anxiety and Not Escape it?

Project Description

The purpose of the project is to inform participants about anxiety focusing on Hispanics, African American and Asian American men and women ages 18-24 since the demographic is disproportionately impacted by anxiety disorders and anxiety. The study is very important because many studies researching anxiety don’t study this age group (18-24) and these ethnicities. The study also aims to increase participants’ knowledge about anxiety and anxiety disorder which hopefully causes a decrease in their anxiety.

Why does this topic interest you?

This topic interests me because many college students are impacted by anxiety especially testing anxiety and I wondered what may help college students cope with anxiety better instead of escaping it.

What are your professional aspirations?

I aspire to become a clinical psychologist specializing in pediatric psyco-oncology. I also would love to teach college students and conduct research.

Do you have any advice for future researchers?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! Despite the many obstacles that you may encounter in the way of your research, never forget that every obstacle is a learning opportunity not a failure!
