Funding for the Exercise Science program will benefit multiple programs with the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences, including but not limited to Exercise Science and Athletic Training. Alumni Memorial Gym 216 is in dire need of repair, renovation, and upgrade and would greatly benefit from classroom updates to better serve students' needs and the types of courses offered. The current classroom currently provides space for 8-9 classes per semester, with enrollment of approximately 15-20 in each class. A technology upgrade and installation is requested to meet the size and proportions of the space with greater access and visibility for students. We request that the room’s current floor, which has issues with rotting wood, be fully repaired to fix the structural integrity of the floor. We also request to install gym floor and turf on top of the existing floor and upgrade the current lecture platform to a wall-mounted 98” display. This change to the flooring will be applicable for: 1) teaching purposes in several classes across multiple majors/concentrations, 2) data collection of undergraduate/graduate projects, 3) collaborative research projects between disciplines, 4) community fitness/training program to increase physical activity/exercise involvement, and 5) provide students with hands-on experience in testing, programming, and running a community fitness program.
