A Wadsworth Control System is needed to replace the non-functioning system in the Horticulture Center Greenhouse. This system will allow automatic regulation of temperature and humidity and prevent plant loss. This facility is used by all Plant Science majors, and many others complete courses utilizing the greenhouse (300+ students annually). Project totals $112,000 and CBAS has committed to cover $40,000. The Horse Science Teaching Arena is used by 18 courses and 3 nationally titled horse competition teams totaling 300+ students annually. This arena needs upgraded LED lighting and a large-scale commercial fan. The current lighting is too dark and causes safety issues with students and horses. The temperature has risen above 100°F on many occasions, posing risk of heat stress to riders, instructors, and horses. Saddles with horse/rider fit technology coupled with data-reading monitors for already-owned equine heart rate sensors will support educational needs of the program. A new squeeze chute equipped with scales and corral system is needed at the Beef Unit. The current system is in ill repair and is a safety issue for both students and cattle. This new system will be used by all Animal Science majors (250+ students annually). A bovine skeleton is requested for use in animal science courses, especially anatomy & physiology, a course needed by pre-veterinary students. A texture analyzer is needed in the Fermentation Science teaching lab. This equipment will impact more than 40 students annually. Total cost is $29,450 and remaining $9,450 covered by FERM funds.
