The Theatre and Dance Department has an in-depth training and co-curricular program enhanced by regular integration of state-of-the-art technology. Our commitment to progress makes our courses and facilities a place where students of many different career paths want to participate and learn. Along with serving our majors, we have active students from CME, RIM, Music, A&E Design, Fashion, Interior Design, and Studio Arts. We ask for your consideration in funding the following projects: The scene shop provides a safe environment for students learning carpentry and construction techniques. A SawStop cabinet saw is pivotal to ensuring the safety of our students as it impedes any major life-threatening injuries that could occur with its automatic blade-braking system. The brakes to operate our current machine are being phased out of production, which would leave our saw inoperable. This machine is pivotal to our Theatre construction courses and labs. Costuming continues to be a key element of production and training in the department. Updated sewing machines are needed to match industry standards for multiple course offerings in costuming and continue to support the departmental production season. Voice amplification is a critical element of any production. The wireless microphones utilized by the Department and Tucker Theatre are at the end of their life and beginning to fail beyond repair. The purchase of new microphone elements will ensure we meet curricular objectives for our sound design courses, expose students to quality production gear, and maintain stellar production experiences for our patrons.
