Bragg 101, a 65-seat arena-style space, is the primary multi-use facility for the Recording Industry program. This versatile space serves as a classroom for all types of RIM courses, accommodating hundreds of students weekly. It is used for student performances, guest speaker lectures, and student group and faculty meetings. While education is the primary focus, due to its size, it is also used for recruitment by hosting students and families for preview days and high school visits. Bragg 101 was an impressive and functional space in its prime, however, after 34 years of use, the room is outdated, with audio and video technology no longer meeting modern standards. The interior, including seating, electrical systems, carpeting, paint, and acoustical treatment, has deteriorated and no longer meets the needs of students or faculty. As one of the top ten programs, our facilities should reflect the high standard of excellence we continue to uphold. We have an opportunity to make Bragg 101 one of the few rooms at a higher ed institution with immersive audio playback capabilities. Making upgrades would expand our ability to conduct research in this rapidly growing area of the music industry. This TAF Discipline Specific proposal covers the technology, equipment, and software to enable ATMOS 7.1.4 playback in the room and to make it suitable for modern professional quality audio and visual presentations of student work, presentations, and audio demonstrations. It also covers physical sound treatments to the space to improve audio quality in the room.
