The Department of Art and Design seeks funding to upgrade our outdated digital fabrication equipment and computer systems. Our current 3D printers and iMac computers, purchased in 2016, no longer meet the demands of contemporary software and evolving industry standards in art and design. This upgrade is essential for preparing students to engage with cutting-edge tools and technologies required in the rapidly evolving creative industries. The primary goal of this proposal is to replace outdated 3D printers, expand 3D digital fabrication capabilities, and upgrade iMac computers. The existing resources, currently confined to a single course in Todd 212, limit students' access to vital 3D modeling and fabrication tools. With the addition of advanced vacuum-forming equipment and new computers, we can create an expanded 3D fabrication space in Todd 107A, allowing more students to engage in hands-on research and skill-building in digital fabrication. These upgrades will benefit 30 undergraduate students annually, primarily those in courses focused on digital modeling, 3D printing, and sculpture. This proposal directly supports NASAD accreditation standards, ensuring that our students have access to the technology necessary for their development as professional artists and designers. The new technology will enhance instructional activities, foster creative experimentation, and expand opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration within the Department of Art and Design.
